Position: Peer Career Educator (multiple openings)
Department: University Career Center and The President’s Promise
Starting Date: Immediately
Salary: $8/hr
Federal Work-Study funding required
Deadline for Application: February 25, 2012
Applicants must be available to work: M-F 1-2pm, Thursday 12-1pm & 5:15-6:15pm, and Friday 10-11am

Responsibilities & Benefits
As a Peer Career Educator you will gain transferable skills in employer relations, peer leadership, and customer service that will help launch your career after college. You will support counseling staff, and assist students, parents, and employers who visit the Resource Room. Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to help others are a must. Additionally, you will receive ongoing professional development that will assist you in your own career planning.

Duties
· Greet and assist visitors with online and printed resources in the Resource Room (Careers4Terps, Career Insider, Optimal Resume, Going Global, and Virtual Mock Interview)
· Maintain organization of the Resource Room and its materials
· Write monthly book reviews
· Contribute to educational videos
· Escort employers, register students, and assist staff at Career Fairs and other events throughout the year
· Assist University Career Center and The President’s Promise staff as necessary
· Attend weekly Peer Career Educator team meetings
· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
· Desire to help peers and demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations
· Strong interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and the ability to multi-task
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Familiarity with University Career Center and The President’s Promise resources
· Preference for applicants who have participated in one or more of The President’s Promise experiences (see presidentspromise.umd.edu for more information)
