Event Planning Internship Program: Fall 2013

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions seeks a three-month (approx. September 9th – December 9th), up to twenty-hour per week intern for the Marketing Area to assist with event programming. This internship position will work as part of a team who shares responsibility for recruiting, admitting, and enrolling talented and diverse undergraduates. The office offers a fast-paced, dynamic environment in which the events intern will play a vital role in the accomplishment of these important goals.

Primary responsibilities:
-Assist with a wide variety of tasks related to program planning, implementation, and execution of recruitment and enrollment events, including but not limited to; Maryland Marquee Day programs, Visit Maryland Day programs and Maryland Ascent Program Events.

-Assist with establishing and maintaining working relationships with on-campus and off-campus vendors, hotel and restaurant sales managers.
Provide on-site assistance to the Assistant Director of Events & Visitor Services and the Graduate Assistant for Events and Programs.

-Provide event planning support as needed to Freshman and Transfer Area events such as, Prince George’s County Information Session, Transfer Academic Excellence Scholarship (TAES) Reception.
-Assist with phone and email queries and maintain and update event filing systems.

-Attendance at events scheduled outside of normal business hours is expected.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have solid program planning experience, strong organization and attention to detail, sound written and oral communication skills, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and have the ability to adapt to a changing, fast-paced, dynamic environment. Knowledge of MS Office products is required. Admission as a full-time student to the University of Maryland, College Park is required.

Salary & Benefits:
This is a non-paid internship. Credit can be earned through your college department.
