Fall Communications & Media Outreach Internship with Oikocredit USA

Oikocredit USA seeks a candidate with superior writing skills, an interest in public relations, and a passion for international development and social investment to fill our Communications & Media Outreach Internship. Applicants for this position should be media-savvy and have strong communications skills and demonstrated creativity. This candidate will work directly with Oikocredit USA’s Communications & Outreach Manager and other members of our staff to collaborate and contribute to an ongoing creative process, provide feedback, and contribute to the development of new strategies and materials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Draft investor communication, such as invitations to webinars and events
  • Create content for and monitor our social media outreach including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to generate awareness and interact with potential investors
  • Write content for blog, e-newsletter, other media outreach and investor collateral relevant to the microfinance and the international development field, including: fair trade, women’s empowerment, social performance, and environmental sustainability
  • Contribute to messaging and branding strategy by researching marketing trends for target markets
  • Research key events and developments in microfinance, international development, and other issues relevant to the organization to assist in development of investor collateral
  • Creativity encouraged! Video editing, Photoshop, etc. skills a plus
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Superior writing ability & independent research skills
  • Coursework or direct work experience in creating marketing or outreach materials preferred
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Creativity and comfort in an innovative role desired
  • Familiarity and comfort with using social media on behalf of an organization or company preferred
  • Prior understanding of microfinance is desirable; however, we are willing to teach interns about microfinance if they can express their desire to enter this field
  • Computer literacy necessary; some experience in web content management preferred
  • Fluency in Excel and experience with Adobe Creative Suite (CS6) are a plus

This internship is unpaid with a flexible, weekly part-time schedule. The intern will receive reimbursements for travel expenses related to the internship, including your metro commute. Interns that complete their internship and demonstrate specific capacity and interest will receive priority placement for paid internships the subsequent semester and/or summer and will be considered for future hire as a part-time consultant.
