Ioana Petrescu is an Economics Assistant Professor at the School of Public Policy. She is currently on leave from University of Maryland to serve in the Romanian government. She was a Finance Minister from March 2014 to December 2014 and during her tenure, focused on fighting large tax evasion, modernizing the tax collection agency and promoting a pro-business tax reform. She currently advises the Prime Minister on fiscal issues, serves as the President of the State Aid Policy Council, heads the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, manages the dialogue of the Prime Minister with the private sector and serves as the Prime Minister's liaison with foreign embassies in Bucharest. Ms. Petrescu received a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Economics from Harvard University and a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Wellesley College. Prior to joining the University of Maryland, she worked as an N.R.I. Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.
