Paid General Audience Marketing Strategy Summer Internship with PBS

DEPARTMENT: General Audience Marketing Strategy SALARY: $12.00/hour (undergrads and recent grads) and $15.00/hour (graduate students)

TIME COMMITMENT: 35-40 hours/week, May - August 2015

The General Audience Marketing Intern supports the PBS marketing team in driving viewers to engage with PBS content on multiple platforms—digital streaming, apps, broadcast television, over-the-top devices, and beyond. National content brands promoted include television programs such as top-rated Downton Abbey on Masterpiece, Ken Burns documentaries, science and natural history programming on series like NOVA and Nature and countless other amazing, iconic shows.

  • Collaborate with GA Marketing Strategy and Creative teams on audience messaging for broadcast and online advertising campaigns
  • Develop new tools to communicate and engage with PBS stations and ways to share and showcase local promotional initiatives system-wide.
  • Assist with digital management of promotional assets, and contribute to marketing strategy for the new internal online portal servicing promotional assets to PBS system
  • Conduct an audit of potential external content partners around upcoming PBS programming
  • Assess the opportunities for greater community engagement around PBS programming, including an audit of local station activation around previous promotional priorities
  • Research and develop PBS marketing and promotion best practices document around local station outreach and potential partnerships
  • Prepare draft reports/meeting recaps

  • Assist in the launch of the digital asset management system by populating internal database with metadata for marketing materials, uploading new assets, and combing over existing assets, checking for any discrepancies in system
  • Track competitive broadcast television landscape and surface interesting trends in the digital and social, and over-the-top spaces, recap competitive marketing campaigns and spread new strategic marketing ideas across the PBS team
  • Evaluate external member-based organizations that could utilize PBS content for their memberships, including organizations that reach diverse audiences

  • College student currently enrolled in marketing/communications, or related discipline

  • Excellent communication skills, including superior writing, editing and proof-reading ability
  • Effective research ability
  • Strong ability to work autonomously as well as contribute to team projects
  • Excellent Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and social media skills
  • Desire to pursue career in Marketing & Communications
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, manage details and meet deadlines
