Trade & Communications Assistant Position with UK Embassy for Graduating Senior or Recent Grad

  • Build and maintain key relationships with relevant US and UK contacts & government bodies.
  • Design and manage events at the British Embassy with high profile UK and US companies/brands, including project management of the events and stakeholder relationships
  • Contribute to incoming and outgoing trade missions by helping to tailor events, research invites, pitching UK companies to potential US partners/customers, producing briefing, developing presentations
  • Represent the UKTI team at meetings with other government departments including Economics, Foreign Policy, and Prosperity Teams, as well as externally to bodies representing business
  • Proactively monitor and report UKTI activity through wider Embassy and US Network internal reporting and by acting as the communication team lead in Embassy meetings
  • Facilitate company, VIP, and Ministerial visit programmes and mobilise internal resources or colleagues as appropriate
  • Perform support function on wider team initiatives as requested by the Head of the Team and Regional Director, including analysing trade and KPI data
  • Arrange and coordinate schedules, meetings, travel, briefings and presentations for the Regional Director and Head of Trade and Investment
  • Coordinate administrative tasks including budget tracking, intern oversight as required, marketing activities and wider office administrative duties
  • Assist the Regional Director and head of UKTI DC with reporting on team management targets and support on client relationship management needs


  • A minimum of a bachelors degree in business, economics, international marketing, or communications
  • 1-3 years relevant business experience
  • Interest in business and ability to learn about the UK's inward investment and trade development activities and successes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team and under tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task; proactive approach to work
  • Strong research, reading comprehension, writing, and communication skills; attention to detail is essential as the on holder will help produce briefing materials for senior officials in the Embassy
  • Excellent team player in order to effectively coordinate returns across the US and UK
  • Flexibility with schedule in order to execute tasks at hand
  • Ability and credibility to deal with companies/organizations at a senior level in person and over the phone, with a proven track record of fostering business relationships
  • Ability to provide clear, concise summaries and to respond to ad hoc requests at short notice using databases and other information sources
  • A self-starter - able to work independently and show initiative with limited day-to-day supervision while operating as part of a wider US/UK team (with wide-ranging objectives)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential
