Paid Fall Policy Internship with the Sheridan Group

The Sheridan Group (TSG) is currently hiring for a paid, part-time policy intern to assist the legislative, operations, and development teams. Over the course of the internship, interns develop a deeper understanding of the political and legislative processes, learn strategies for impacting public policy through advocacy, and gain experience working as part of a client services team.
Interns will be expected to work across a range of policy issues, including education, health, poverty, economic development, and others. Daily responsibilities for interns include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting research on a wide-range of policy issues related to current or prospective clients;
  • Monitoring legislation moving in Congress;
  • Staying up to date and briefing staff on the current political climate;
  • Assisting with scheduling and organization of meetings on Capitol Hill and with the Executive Branch; Interns may also produce documents for clients and/or these meetings.
  • Attending hearings, briefings, and related events, and draft subsequent summary documents;
  • Researching and preparing documents for development goals and;
  • Assisting as needed with general office duties.
QUALIFICATIONS :
We are looking for candidates that meet the following general criteria:
  • College and graduate level students or those who have recently graduated;
  • Strong interest and some background knowledge in politics, public policy and/or the political process;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills a must;
  • Ability and willingness to learn new concepts and skills quickly and to juggle multiple projects at once;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic, and sense of humor.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations a plus.
Interns will receive a monthly stipend or can receive class credit. Start day flexible with class schedule.
