Government Relations Associate Position for Recent Grad with the Center for U.S. Global Leadership
The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is seeking a Government Relations Associate to assist with its efforts to amplify the importance of America's global leadership and the effectiveness of U.S. international affairs programs. The USGLC works to educate and inspire support from the American public and policymakers for a strong and effective International Affairs Budget. The USGLC's Government Relations Associate reports to the Director of Government Relations.
Legislation Tracking and Research
Track House and Senate Budget and Appropriations action regarding the International Affairs Budget.
Research and track relevant legislation and policy initiatives for non-budget areas that impact development and diplomacy programs, e.g. food security, aid transparency bills.
Work with Government Relations colleagues to maintain and expand Congressional support for funding for the International Affairs Budget and for relevant global development legislation. Activities include:
Develop relationships with House and Senate offices.
Assist in the planning and implementation of Capitol Hill lobby days and events.
Monitor congressional hearings, legislation, and briefings; particularly around relevant non-budget focused issues (e.g. food Security, aid transparency).
Prepare briefing materials both for internal and external audiences, including assisting in drafting of Budget Updates.
Manage Budget Center on USGLC's website.
Lead in sending Government Relations communications through Convio, including Hill E-Letters, Budget Updates, and Rapid Response Mobilization notes.
Maintain Government Relations lists in Salesforce.
Materials and Memos
In-District Meetings & Field Events: Assist Government Relations colleagues in drafting materials and memos for in-district congressional meetings and in-state events.
Prepare materials for Capitol Hill lobby days and Hill Briefings.
Contribute to and author blog posts.
Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the department.
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in public policy, government relations, foreign policy, international relations or a similar subject. The position requires at least 2 years of public policy and/or government relations experience related to U.S. foreign policy and international development; Capitol Hill experience preferred. Strong analytical, writing, proofing/editing and communication skills are required. Experience with Salesforce and Convio preferred. Limited travel is expected.
