The Sunlight Foundation is looking for an intern to assist our communications team on media relations, social media and original reporting projects that further Sunlight’s mission of open government and transparency.
This paid, approximately half-time internship is designed for college or grad students majoring in journalism, public relations, political science, or other students interested in politics and government.
The Communications Intern will be responsible for:
Monitoring the press and blogs for mentions of the Sunlight Foundation and capturing those mentions for our archives
Maintaining and updating the press lists
Researching for future outreach opportunities
Creating social media content
Maintaining Sunlight’s Political Party Time database
The ideal Communications Intern should:
Have a passion for all types of news and a desire to make our politics more transparent and accountable
Have great writing and Internet research skills
Be familiar with current social media services and tools
Have a commitment to the public interest and good government
Have the ability to work unsupervised
Have excellent interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for talking to and learning from a wide variety of people
Have knowledge of Google apps and HTML (helpful but not necessary)
