Spring and Summer Communications Internships with DC Vote

DC Vote is a national citizen engagement and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening democracy and securing equality for all in the District of Columbia. With a talented and highly-motivated staff, DC Vote is a recognized leader in the democracy movement.
We are currently seeking bright, energetic and hardworking undergraduate/graduate students or recent graduates to support DC Vote's work. Candidate should have an interest in education, advocacy and democracy.

The duration of DC Vote internships are one semester. Start and end dates are flexible based on your schedule. There is a 20 hour per week minimum commitment. All internships are unpaid.

Spring interns: January 15-May 15
Summer interns: June 1-August 15
Fall interns: September 1-December 15

The Communications Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in the field of cause-marketing, web design, advocacy, and grassroots activism. The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Director.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with developing content for the DCVote.org blog
  • Monitor social media trends and engagement of DC Vote and partners
  • Upload relevant news articles to DCVote.org
  • Share relevant news stories with staff
  • Post relevant information on DC Vote's social media sites
  • Assist in the production of emails, press releases, and promotional materials
  • Organize all DC Vote merchandise and promotional items
Skills and Qualifications: 
  • Strong public speaking skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Strong writing and editing skills 
  • An innovative self-starter who can complete tasks under tight deadlines and has the ability to remain flexible while handling changing priorities 
  • Interest in both local and national politics 
  • Interest in outreach and advocacy 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce or similar databases 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment 
  • A people-person who is comfortable interacting with large groups and individuals 
  • Great sense of humor
