China Program Summer Internship with the Stimson Center

Stimson's East Asia -China Program offers an internship position to those who are seeking to gain research and analysis experience in cross-Taiwan Strait relations and the United States' involvement with both Taiwan and the PRC. The program closely monitors political and economic developments in Taiwan to understand behaviors of major parties involved as well as the dynamic between the two sides of the Strait. Our research looks to elucidate the issues and make policy recommendations for not only the United States, but also the two cross-Strait players.

Internships are unpaid.


Responsibilities for the China/cross-Strait intern include:

  • Provide research support; monitor, track, and translate Chinese-language articles, public opinion polls and other items related to cross-Strait issues on a daily basis
  • Update the Brainstorm database and related WORD files with relevant articles
  • Attend events on relevant subjects in D.C. and take notes
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the program (event planning and organization, managing calendars)


Generally, a strong candidate for this position will have

  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Strong command of English and Chinese, including familiarity with both simplified and traditional Chinese characters
  • A strong interest in China and cross-Strait relations and previous experience translating from Chinese into English
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality work
  • A record of academic excellence
  • Full-time interns are highly preferred
  • An ability to work independently
