Media & Communications Coordinator Position with Swiss Embassy for Recent Grad Fluent in German or French!

The Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C., is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time (100%) permanent position as Media and Communications Coordinator.
The Media & Communications Coordinators assist the Head of Communications & Public Diplomacy in daily and general duties. The Coordinators also play a vital role in writing texts, covering print, online and social media channels, while ensuring compliance with the Swiss federal government's CI (Corporate Identity)/CD (Corporate Design). He or she will be involved in writing, editing and overseeing the design of print and online materials such as newsletters, media releases, speeches, brochures and the Embassy of Switzerland's website. Projects regularly involve working with other Embassy of Switzerland sections and the headquarters in Bern and with third-party service providers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Media
  • Writing content for the Embassy of Switzerland's various communications channels (newsletter and so forth)
  • Strategy development, planning and implementing communication and outreach activities
  • Assisting in responding to media inquiries, keeping accurate records of all information
  • Monitoring the U.S. media
  • Planning and implementing media events
  • Maintaining a media database
Communications
  • Using and monitoring social media
  • Assisting in the production of the Embassy of Switzerland's newsletter and events calendars and print materials and managing the subscribers' database for the newsletter and events calendars
  • Ensuring consistent branding and visual image of communications products
  • Writing copy for a variety of uses, including press releases, newsletters, social media, reports, and project proposals
  • Providing quality control of documents with respect to use of language, terminology and design
  • Using graphic design programs to assist other sections in creating cards and flyers
Administration
  • Providing administrative support to the Head of Communications and Public Diplomacy
  • Overseeing and maintaining newspapers and magazines in the Embassy of Switzerland's reading room and waiting room area. Managing subscriptions for all newspapers and magazines.

Qualifications

  • College or university degree in communications, media relations, political science, or a related field
  • At least three years of relevant work experience
  • Fluency in English and fluency in German or French
  • Knowledge of Switzerland
  • Excellent knowledge of the U.S. and Swiss media
  • Broad interests, the ability to quickly grasp new ideas and concepts, aptitude for international relations and diplomacy, policy, economics, and so forth
  • Strong writing skills; excellent spelling and grammar, attention to detail, a creative mind, good telephone manner, and a willingness to learn
  • Experience in web content management and social media management
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and experience working with graphic design programs
  • Proven ability to multitask, take initiative and work as a team player
  • Be well organized, reliable and responsible, self-motivated, tactful, and have the ability to plan ahead and prioritize
  • Ability to work under pressure and with short deadlines, occasional work on weekends and evenings
  • Service-oriented approach toward tasks
  • Valid driver's license
