Paid Media Advocacy Internship with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Based in Washington, DC with offices throughout the country, ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority.

The media advocacy intern will assist the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s (ACS CAN) national media advocacy team with executing communications and media relations activities that support ACS CAN’s advocacy work.

Research media outlets and reporters
Assist with researching, drafting and copy editing press releases, email pitches, newsletter articles and other internal and external communications materials
Assist with executing events such as press conferences
Assist with content inventory and maintenance of the organization’s intranet community
Provide support to the team’s social and online media efforts
Monitoring online databases for news stories of interest
Assisting with drafting media coverage reports

Position Requirements

Candidates must be at least a college sophomore, preferably with a major in communications/public relations, journalism, public relations, political science or a related field.  Candidates must also have strong oral, written and computer skills, be a team player, handle multiple projects effectively, and have an interest in public policy and/or health care issues.

All Interns Must meet the following requirements:
Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you  have completed your freshman year of college;
Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);
Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
Note: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation.
