Paid Summer Internship with CNN Political Unit

Duties: This internship will be split between the Political Unit and Inside Politics. This intern will have the opportunity to gain insight into the U.S. political system and CNN's editorial process. They will work with CNN Political Unit staff in various aspects of the network's election coverage, including: observing and assisting with the production of political packages for air; conducting video searches; transcribing video; compiling research for producers and correspondents; accompanying producers at DC-based political events (when possible); and assisting with other aspects of CNN's political coverage and newsgathering. This intern will also work with the Inside Politics show team. They will learn how CNN's Chief National Correspondent, John King, and his team plan and produce a Sunday morning show. As an integral part of a small group, the interns will get the opportunity to pitch reporters and topics, do show research, help with elements and Magic Wall hits, and be a part of the show's digital expansion. Extensive understanding of and interest in political campaigns and U.S. politics a must.‪‬‬ 

Please Note: inTURNERship Program dates are June 6th through August 12th. Interns are paid at minimum-wage based on location and relocation is not provided. Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL DURING THE TIME OF THIS INTERNSHIP). Note to International Students: All international students will be required to provide documentation of proper visa paperwork prior to your arrival if accepted to the program.

Qualifications: In order to facilitate the learning experience, the following qualifications are preferred. Candidate seeking a career in journalism, writing, or research preferred. Extensive understanding of and interest in political campaigns and U.S. politics a must.‪ Should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to multi-task, have a good attitude, and be able to function well in an environment with short deadlines and quick turnaround projects. Interns would need to be available during the week for this internship. ‬‬
