Research Associate Position for Recent Grad with Advanced Spanish

Research Associate, Regional Integration

Nathan Associates is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated Research Associate to join our Trade and Logistics group primarily in support of a regional economic integration project in Central America. To be considered for this position, applicants must be able to speak, read, and write in Spanish at an advanced or near fluent level, and be able to demonstrate through past work experience and internships acute organizational skills and the ability to constantly reprioritize tasks and responsibilities as necessary. This position will be based at our home office in Arlington, Virginia.


  • Serve as project coordinator for overseas projects—overseeing administrative, contractual, and financial aspects of projects
  • Work with the Finance Department to track project spending and provide periodic financial forecasts
  • Maintain project databases
  • Ensure that projects comply with USAID and internal policies and procedures
  • Serve as proposal coordinator and write sections of project proposals
  • Tailor contract templates for consultants, subcontractors, and clients
  • Handle logistics for consultant and staff travel, relocation, and project events
  • Manage project deliverables and reports
  • Update website(s) and intranet (using online management tool)
  • Conduct research or data analysis and prepare draft reports (or inputs) for senior staff or project consultants


  • B.A./S. in business, international development/affairs, economics, or related field – relevant Masters a plus
  • A minimum of two years experience in a backstopping or administrative role relevant to the international development field
  • Relevant overseas work or internship experience in a developing country context – specific experience in Central or Spanish-speaking Latin American countries is a plus
  • Advanced or near fluent writing, speaking, and reading Spanish skills
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, including spreadsheet and financial tracking
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills (you will interact with employees, consultants, partners, clients, subcontractors, and vendors)
  • Strong writing skills
  • Permanent U.S. work authorization required
