Capital Fringe Festival Summer Volunteer Internships

The Festival Photographer Interns (two positions) will work with the Festival Director to recruit and coordinate a team of volunteer photographers who will photograph all shows in the Capital Fringe Festival and related events.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
·         Assist in recruiting a team of volunteer photographers
·         Create a schedule of photography coverage of Festival shows and other events
·         Participate in photographing Festival shows and other events
·         Working with Marketing staff and interns to provide photography for marketing collateral
·         Receive all Festival photographs, edit albums and upload them to Capital Fringe’s flickr account, appropriately labeled
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate excels not only in photography, but is organized, detail-oriented, communicates well verbally and in writing and can work independently or in a small team to complete a project. Experience with Photoshop and the Microsoft Office Suite is a plus. Candidate will need their own camera.


Dates: June – July, 2016
Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week. Hours during the Festival will vary depending on show photography schedule. Festival shows run between 5pm and Midnight on weeknights and 11:30am and Midnight on weekends.

The Festival Special Event Interns (two positions) will work with the Festival Director and Capital Fringe Programming Coordinator to organize and deliver two special events: the Festival Preview on June 18th and an outdoor live music event on a date to be confirmed in mid-July. This is a project-based internship and will allow the successful applicants to gain valuable hands-on experience in event planning and delivery. Interns will lead on many event elements, taking ownership of their specific tasks and playing a key role in making the events a reality.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
·         Working with the Festival Director and Programming Coordinator to program the event content
·         Liaising with artists in the lead-up to, and during, the events to assess their technical needs and communicate event details
·         Work with Festival technical staff to assess equipment needs, research suppliers and contribute to planning technical set-up
·         Reach out to potential event sponsors for equipment, food, drink and other hospitality
·         Contribute to creation and delivery of event marketing
·         Coordinate event vendors
·         Provide event management on-site.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the DC performing arts community and interested in learning more; experienced in events coordination; familiar with Microsoft Office Suite programs; a self-starter with initiative, who can work on projects independently; detail-oriented and organized; able to work in a high-stress environment; flexible and adaptable to change.
Dates: May – July, 2016
Hours: PT/ 20 hours per week. Must be available on special event days.

The Festival Press Intern will work with the Festival Director and Box Office Manager to coordinate the needs of members of the press during the Capital Fringe Festival and facilitate artist interaction with the press.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
·         Receive, proof and post to capitalfringe.org artist Press Releases
·         Prepare press packets for major events, primarily the Festival Preview on June 18th
·         Support the Festival Publicist at major events, primarily the Festival Preview on June 18th
·         At the direction of the Box Office Manager, process Press Passes on Fringe’s ticketing system and create letters for members of the press
·         Track tickets booked by members of the press
·         Track published reviews of Fringe shows
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate excels in writing with strong command of grammar and style; editing and proofing experience ideal; detail-oriented and organized, able to work to tight deadlines; familiar with Microsoft Office Suite programs, particularly Excel; experience using ticketing software a plus. Preferred candidates will have some familiarity with DC and its arts and cultural organizations and publications.

The Marketing Intern will assist Fringe staff with marketing the Capital Fringe Festival through social media and other points of entry.
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
·         Writing blog entries
·         Working with Photography Interns to determine images for marketing collateral
·         Planning and executing content and conversation for Capital Fringe’s social media accounts – this includes being present at Fringe events and building the buzz!
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate excels in writing with strong command of grammar and style; has a creative style; experience working on student newspapers, literary magazines, or other publications; and is comfortable navigating websites and using search engines. Preferred candidates will have some familiarity with DC and its arts and cultural organizations.

Dates: May - July, 2016 (preferred but negotiable)
