Summer Research Internship: CSIS Middle East Program

The CSIS Middle East Program seeks highly motivated candidates for a full-time, three-month internship in a dynamic and fast-paced environment beginning in June 2015.

The Middle East Program is currently undertaking work on Middle East relations with Asia; political, security, and economic trends in the Maghreb; and the long-term drivers of security, social, and economic change in the Gulf countries.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resumé, two letters of recommendation, a brief (800-1000 word) writing sample, and college transcripts. Writing samples should demonstrate the ability to research and write policy-relevant work. Letters of recommendation should be sent to Finalists will also be asked to complete a trial assignment assessing their research and writing ability.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

Interns have substantive responsibilities. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Compiling research briefs and literature reviews for senior fellows
  • Briefing the program director weekly
  • Attending events and writing event summaries
  • Drafting and editing articles for the Middle East Program’s monthly newsletter
  • Assisting with program events and some administrative tasks
Required Skills

Required Experience

  • Minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a U.S. scale or equivalent
  • Strong demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the Middle East
  • Demonstrated research skills
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Zest for challenging assignments that demand creativity
  • Arabic and/or French language skills are strongly preferred
