Communications and Program Specialist Summer Internships with United Voices for America

DESCRIPTION
United Voices has several immediate openings for part-time and full-time highly motivated, intelligent, and dedicated individuals with a passion for civics and politics in its Washington, DC office for Communications and Program Specialists Internships. United Voices for America is a non-profit, non-partisan civic engagement organization dedicated to increasing the participation of people of color, minorities and the disenfranchised in the political process.

Duties, Qualifications, and Projects
We are looking for several individuals to join the United Voices team to help our upcoming Capitol Leadership Academy (CLA). At least one position would specialize in communications and assist with some program coordination, while the Program Specialist internships would focus on successfully implementing the CLA program. 

The Communications Specialist intern would focus on helping with all outgoing communications including new media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, website, etc.) updates, email blasts, editorials, press releases, and contact with potential speakers and scheduling with the Hill. Interns in this position would also share some duties with the program specialist interns to ensure our program is a success. 

The Program Specialist intern’s primary focus would be to help plan, organize and implement a weeklong political-leadership and training program in Washington, DC for minority youth (high school and college students). Interns would be assisting in facilitating and organizing our summer flagship program in civic leadership for youth, particularly the marketing and fundraising aspects of organizing the event. Duties would include being a point of contact/follow-up for perspective students, creating educational materials for a target audience of young adults ages 15-22, performing outreach to recruit young leaders to our program, and building community relationships and relationships with minority communities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Skills
1. Strong Interpersonal and communication skills on phone and in person 
2. Excellent writing skills and communicating well 
3. Experience with Desktop Computer, Microsoft Word, Internet, and some social media 
4. Event set up and break-down capabilities 
5. Experience with political campaigns 
6. Strong level of critical thinking and being proactive 
7. Website design and editing is a plus
8. Fluency in other languages is a plus 

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have attended college for two years.
