Paid Election Internship with Fairfax County Government for Virginia Voter

Summary: The Fairfax County Office of Elections is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student intern to assist with election and voting processes. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the election process for Virginia’s largest jurisdiction – Fairfax County, with close to 700,000 registered voters. We are seeking candidates with a high-level of interest in the voting process from a nonpartisan perspective. Application Deadline is June 30, 2016.
The intern will work primarily in the Office of Elections, located at the Fairfax County Government Center and occasionally at various satellite locations or at the County warehouse. The internship begins after Labor Day 2016 and concludes one week after the presidential election. Candidates must be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, with flexible hours available, including Saturdays and evenings. Candidates must also be available to work on the last day of absentee voting and work up to 12 hours of Election Day.
The internship is paid at a rate of $13.53 per hour.
  • Registered voter in the commonwealth of Virginia;
  • Rising junior or senior in a four-year degree program or enrolled in a graduate program. Preferred majors include political science, American government, American history, international relations, public policy or administration;
  • Grade point average of at least 3.0 in major
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of common office computer programs and systems;
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently;
  • Interest in government or public service;
  • Ability to maintain party or candidate neutrality at all times while participating in the internship;
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
