Paid Fall CSIS Research Internship Middle East Program
The CSIS Middle East Program seeks highly motivated candidates for a full-time paid, six-month internship in a dynamic and fast-paced environment beginning in late August 2016.
The Middle East Program is currently undertaking work on Middle East relations with South and East Asia; political, security, and economic trends in the Maghreb; military service in the United Arab Emirates; and the long-term drivers of social and economic change in the Gulf countries.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, resumé, two letters of recommendation, and a brief (500-1000 word) writing sample. Writing samples should demonstrate the ability to research and write policy-relevant work. Letters of recommendation should be sent firstname.lastname@example.org. Finalists will also be asked to complete a trial assignment assessing their research and writing ability.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Please note this is a paid internship position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interns have substantive responsibilities. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Compiling research briefs and literature reviews for senior fellows
Briefing the program director weekly
Attending events and writing event summaries
Drafting and editing articles for the Middle East Program’s monthly newsletter
Assisting with program events and some administrative tasks
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a U.S. scale or equivalent
Strong demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the Middle East
Demonstrated research skills
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Zest for challenging assignments that demand creativity
Arabic and/or French language skills are strongly preferred
