American Council on Education Assistant Analyst Position for Recent Grad

The Assistant Analyst provides program and research support as well as executive administrative support at the American Council on Education’s Center for Policy Research and Strategy. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Policy and Strategy, this position is integral to the daily operations of the center. A newly established center within ACE, CPRS’ mission is to produce thought leadership at the intersection of public policy and institutional strategy. The ideal candidate is an exceptional individual who thrives in a team environment while having the confidence to work independently as a significant support to the CPRS team. Such an individual would be an organized team player who knows how to take initiative and can balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Approximately half of the individual’s time would be focused on program and research support, while the other half would be devoted to executive-level administrative support to the Vice President and Assistant Vice President of CPRS.
 The American Council on Education, the nation’s largest higher education organization, is a Washington, D.C. based membership association that represents the presidents of more than 1,700 higher education institutions and another 200 leaders of higher education-related organizations. 
Essential Job Duties or Tasks:
  • Contribute to research projects, including scheduling of interviews, note-taking, and building and fielding of surveys. Assist the research team in project management, including communicating with external scholars and contractors.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the center’s Graduate Research Associate program, including recruitment and orientation; select and supervise undergraduate intern during peak periods.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize background documents, as well as internal and external correspondence including bulk e-mail correspondence.
  • Assist in planning complex meetings including roundtables, conferences, and other events by arranging travel and hotel accommodations, communicating with speakers and participants, processing travel reimbursements, producing and tracking purchase orders, meeting minutes, and other on-site meeting operations.
  • Provide executive-level administrative support to the Vice President and Assistant Vice President for Policy Research and Strategy, including VP’s travel schedule.
  • Provide heavy calendar management, requiring interaction with both internal and external constituents.
  • Contribute to the design and conceptualization of the center’s website and make regular updates to website content.
  • Act as team liaison to other departments at ACE, namely to the Facilities, Information Technology, PDSC, Finance, and Human Resources department, as well with ACE divisions including publications, public affairs, and marketing.
  • Execute regular office tasks including maintaining and updating team’s shared email address and listserv, assisting in tracking the center’s budget, maintaining project specific files and process documents, creating presentations, and responding to internal and external inquiries for CPRS research.
  • Coordinate teleconferences, presentations, guests of CPRS visitation and ACE conference room reservations, providing on-site assistance as needed.
  • Provide administrative support in a variety of capacities including printing, contracts, mail processing, purchase orders, expenses, travel authorizations, invoices, and supplies.
  • Manage signatory process for all documents needing Vice President’s and Assistant Vice President’s approval (e.g., contracts, PO’s, and travel authorizations).

Education/Experience/Specialized Knowledge and Competency Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required with one to two years of professional experience, including internships.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team and provide support to team members and their projects.
  • Facility with managing multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to prioritize as needed.
  • Ability to interface with high level leadership and guests, and create a welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and experience in fast-paced settings.
