Two Entry Level Positions with the Advancement Project for Recent Grad
Advancement Project’s Washington DC office seeks a Program Associate to support its civil rights litigation and advocacy work.
This entry level position will work with and support staff and attorneys across all of Advancement Project’s programs and initiatives. Current program areas include voter protection, ending the schoolhouse-to jailhouse-track, immigrant justice, and guaranteeing the right to vote.
Strong writing, communication and factual research skills, including editing, cite checking, and the ability to distill and present data.
Intermediate to advanced computer and data entry skills, including familiarity with MS Word and basic Excel calculations.
Enthusiasm for work in various program areas.
Demonstrated commitment to racial justice and the ability to work with communities of color.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative/team environment.
Ability to prioritize tasks, work under deadlines, and juggle multiple tasks/assignments.
The ability to analyze legal and factual documents for accuracy.
Strong analytical abilities.
High level of motivation and initiative.
Sense of humor.
Comfort working with and analyzing numbers, including Census data.
Paralegal skills or experience; including some knowledge of legal terminology and principles, and the ability to interact well with attorneys as well as grassroots community leaders.
Experience tracking state and/or federal legislation.
Experience submitting and/or tracking public records requests.
Experience conducting and transcribing interviews.
Experience using database management systems, such as Microsoft Access.
Experience using graphic design software.
Substantive experience working in any of Advancement Project’s program areas.
Fluency in more than one language.

Advancement Project seeks a creative, energetic, and committed professional to serve as Communications Associate. Alongside a team of communications professionals, advocates and seasoned racial justice lawyers, the communications associate would implement key strategies amplifying the work of Advancement Project and grassroots partners. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A demonstrable zeal for and a nuanced understanding of racial justice
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science or related field preferred.
1-3 years of experience in communications preferred (campaign experience helpful)
Exceptional writing skills
Strong background in racial justice and social change
Ability to develop collateral materials
Exceptional attention to detail
A high level of organization skills
Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint and other standard software
Results-focused approach and commitment to going the extra mile
Media relations experience with proven results and experience working with reporters
Experience developing and editing high-quality written materials, including: Fact sheets, talking points, statements, etc.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the direct supervision of the Managing Director for Communications, duties for the Communications Associate include:
Managing creative, detailed communication efforts
Gathering and produce journalistic content, audio, video, digital and written, for various formats.
Writing op-eds, press releases, talking points and other press materials
Develop press lists and clip files
Forge and maintain relationships with reporters
Perform other related duties as assigned
Assist with production and editing of organizational reports
Assist with digital strategy
Support Advancement Project racial justice partners with communications strategy
