DC Marketing and Communications Internship with Playworks

Playworks is a national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to transform children’s physical and emotional health. Playworks currently serves more than 900 schools in 23 U.S. cities, and reaches almost half of a million students directly and through professional training services.

Playworks DC seeks an unpaid intern to assist program in day-to-day activities. This internship will give the intern valuable, real-world experience in creating outreach and marketing strategies for an organization. Well suited candidates should have an interest in social media & communications. Candidates must be currently enrolled or recent graduates and plan on pursuing a career in a related field. This is an unpaid position, but it comes with a great reference and lots of fun in the office – including daily play and plenty of hi-fiving. This position is located at our Washington, DC office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Marketing and Communications:

  • Increase awareness of Playworks as a national organization;
  • Strengthen communication with our current partners and donors (i.e. drafting outreach emails to community and corporate partners);
  • Research and propose communication strategies for engaging current and future stakeholders;
  • Develop and manage a Playworks DC YouTube channel, including production of game illustration videos;
  • Manage Playworks DC’s social media outlets - including creation of tailored messaging based on target audiences;
  • Lead publicity plan for events;
  • Create and update website content;
  • Visit Playworks programming at schools
Qualifications: 
  • Passion for play, children’s health & high-quality public education
  • Familiarity with social media norms (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) & trends
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and take initiative
  • Creative spirit and motivation to propose new ideas with confidence to ask questions
  • Interest in designing and proposing communication plans
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with excellent research skills and attention to details
  • Ability to thrive in a professional yet playful workplace culture
  • Ability to commit to at least 15 hours a week
  • Previous experience in digital material creation, film creation, editing, and production preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with Google Drive applications and/or Salesforce preferred but not required
