Fall Cycling Outreach and GIS Internships on Campus with DOTS!

The Department of Transportation Services is looking for a highly motivated student to work with the Bike Coordinator on promoting a safe and inclusive environment for cyclists at the University of Maryland. This will include event support and educational outreach. The University will be launching a bikeshare system in partnership with the City of College Park in the spring that will result in many new cyclists on campus. The Intern will aid the Bike Coordinator in reaching out to these new cyclists, as well as creating a dialog with non-cyclists and undeserved cyclists in the UMD community. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to this internship. Please contact bike@umd.edu with questions.

The Department of Transportation Services is looking for a motivated student to work with the Bike Coordinator on evaluating bike parking on campus. The intern will be responsible for working in the field to geocode bikes that are incorrectly parked in order for DOTS to identify target areas for new bike parking facilities. This will involve hands-on work with ArcMap10, which is cutting edge Graphic Information Systems technology. The intern will be responsible for creating and maintaining a geocoded database at the direction of the Bike Coordinator. No previous experience with GIS is required, though it is considered a plus. Please contact bike@umd.edu with questions.
