Research Internship - Project on Nuclear Issues, for Recent Grad
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) is seeking a research intern to support its effort to build and sustain the next generation of nuclear experts, and to contribute to research on other WMD related issues. PONI works to develop the next generation of leaders with both necessary subject matter expertise and the professional skills to be effective in shaping and implementing policy.
The research intern’s primary responsibilities will consist of: • Providing research support to PONI staff, including PONI Director and ISP Senior Adviser, Rebecca Hersman • Supporting PONI staff in coordinating and organizing events • Authoring posts for the PONI Forum blog • Assisting in the review and editing of papers submitted for publication • Compiling daily news relating to nuclear issues • Other administrative duties as assigned
Interns are strongly encouraged to pursue their own research and write about issues of interest to them and will have time to do so. Interns are also strongly encouraged to attend all meetings and events and, if funding permits, travel to conferences. The internship is full-time, paid, and for a maximum of 6 months.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of BA/BS degree • Interest and knowledge of issues related to chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons • Strong analytic and writing skills • Ability to work independently and efficiently multitask • Experience with event planning • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
