Paid Spring/Summer Government Relations Internship with American Association for the Advancement of Science

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) seeks a part-time spring/summer 2017 intern to support the functions of the Office of Government Relations.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn about science and technology policy, gain experience working with Congress and legislative issues, and to become an integral part of the AAAS GR team. This paid internship will run approximately 6 months from February through the end of July and involve working 16-24 hours per week, with a strong preference for a Tues/Thurs or Tues/Wed/Thurs time frame.
Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Assists with social media and web content, attends hearings, writes articles for departmental newsletter, conducts S&T policy research
  • Assists with other activities, such as congressional briefings, as assigned
Minimum qualifications:
  • A strong academic background; all majors will be considered, with priority given to the natural and social sciences, and engineering
  • A strong interest in the intersection of science, technology, and public policy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly in writing for popular audiences
