Research and Evaluation Specialist Radio Free Asia for December or Recent Grad
Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include television, web, video, mobile and e-books.
RFA is currently seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) professional with strong analytic and writing skills to provide a range of support to its Department of Research, Training and Evaluation, which is responsible for measuring audiences for RFA's nine language services and affiliated websites, obtaining feedback on content, evaluating program quality, tracking impact, and providing journalism training. This position will be based in RFA's Washington, DC, offices.
Helping plan and coordinate assigned research projects aimed at learning about current and potential audiences for RFA and affiliated websites.
Assisting in all aspects of research on the quality, effectiveness and impact of RFA's content on radio, satellite TV, web, and social media – including survey questionnaire design, fieldwork oversight, qualitative research design and supervision, data analysis, and web metrics analysis.
Providing customized analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from projects in RFA target regions.
Editing research reports and presenting research findings.
Providing RFA management with research information used in evaluation and strategic planning, including media use trends and web traffic analysis.
Tracking progress toward strategic goals and targets identified in RFA's evaluation processes and contributing to reports for stakeholders and oversight bodies.
Assisting as needed with RFA's regular evaluation meetings, including handling logistical support, preparation and editing of evaluation materials and presentations.
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in International Relations, Communications, Political Science, Anthropology, or a related field, along with training in statistics and/or social science research methodology.
Experience using statistical software such as SPSS.
Strong communication skills – especially in written English – and knowledge of one or more of RFA's broadcast languages.
Demonstrated skills synthesizing and presenting complex information for diverse audiences.
Solid understanding of the history and politics of RFA target regions as well as of human rights and/or repressive societies.
Preferred qualifications include skills relating to media editing, web design, internet traffic metrics, and database analysis; experience living in RFA's target regions and/or working in a media organization; and training or experience in international M&E.
