Baltimore Activism Manager (Recent Graduates)

The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, seeks an energetic, passionate and outgoing person to fill the role of Baltimore Activism Manager in support of a new project in the city of Baltimore, which is expected to last a minimum of three years. This person will be based out of our headquarters in Arlington, Va., but the position will include extensive travel to Baltimore for projects and events.

The Institute’s activism team fights to change the world at the grassroots through outreach, community organizing, trainings, and coalition building. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation of the civil liberties the Institute fights for and the confidence and optimism to advance the team’s efforts. Ideal candidates should have at least four years of grassroots activism experience.

This position will work with the project team and Director of Activism and Coalitions to identify and prioritize opportunities for activism, cultivate relationships with activists, and develop and implement grassroots strategies for local campaigns. This person will travel to organize communities in Baltimore and broader Maryland and assist the project team in implementing strategies to help Baltimoreans by advancing liberty-based solutions.

Specific responsibilities:
-Identify and develop opportunities for activism within the Institute’s four focus areas of economic liberty, free speech, private property rights, and educational choice.
-Develop campaign plans with the project team to implement strategies.
-Travel to Maryland to organize communities and provide grassroots consultation and materials in person, serving as point person on Baltimore activism projects.
-Cultivate partnerships with policymakers and community organizations interested in advancing project goals.
-Facilitate coalition-building, growth of groups, and local campaigns.
-Lead other outreach events (protests, rallies) at strategic moments in grassroots efforts.
-Support legislative advocacy campaigns in Maryland.
-Other duties as assigned.

-Bachelor’s degree*
-Efficiency, creativity, persistence, strong sense of initiative, experience managing diverse tasks independently
-Strong interpersonal, communications, organization, problem-solving, and writing skills
-Familiarity with Microsoft Office; Salesforce a plus
-Flexibility to host occasional evening or weekend programs
-Minimum four years relevant experience preferred
