Summer Gender Internship with International Executive Service Corps

The International Executive Service Corps (IESC) has a summer internship opportunity available for a gender intern, a cross-cutting function that supports the organization across programs and new business departments. This is an unpaid internship The successful applicant must be able to commit 20 - 32 hours per week. The anticipated term of the internship is May 31st - August 31, however there is flexibility on the exact start date.
IESC is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes economic growth in developing countries by supporting the development of private enterprises, business support organizations, and public institutions. IESC applies and integrated approach to gender throughout our programming to promote inclusive economic growth.
IESC’s internship program is open to students in graduate and undergraduate programs. Students that have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program within 6 months of applying are eligible for the internship. Successful applicants must have strong research and writing skills and an ability to work independently. Previous internship(s) and/or professional work experience and knowledge of USAID policies and procedures is preferred.

Reporting To: Gender Intern Supervisor, New Business Manager
Duties:
  • Perform gender desk analyses for new business proposals and/or ongoing projects on an as needed basis.
  • Contribute to IESC’s gender strategy development, including drafting an implementation guideline
  • Develop and/or adapt tools for gender analysis, conduct training for IESC staff as appropriate.
  • Manage IESC’s gender performance evaluation goal inventory.
  •  Work with project staff and the youth intern to support gender and youth focal points with resources including access to trainings, research, and support from the gender and youth committee.
  • Generate gender updates for the internal weekly newsletter publication.
  • Serve as an integral member of the IESC Gender and Youth Committee and provide a range of support to program staff.
  • Follow youth and gender trends across donors and implementers through research on strategies, developments, and donor communication and outreach.
  • Arrange one brown bag, training, and/or speaker on gender issues in the development industry.
  • Monitoring RFP releases, implementing partners’ projects, and outside events involving gender and development.
  • Reorganize and maintain the gender SharePoint site and resource library.
  • Attend outside learning events and presentations and prepare and share notes for IESC staff., as time permits.
  • Provide support through other duties as requested.

  • Past experience with gender related projects
  • Strong writer with ability to document processes
  • Self - starter
  • Thoughtful interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people at all levels, both U.S. and international.
Other Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of USAID and the international development community a plus.
  • Knowledge of the proposal development cycle a plus, but not required.
