Communications Specialist Position with the Stimson Center for Recent Grad

Working with the Director of Communications and alongside research staff, the Communications Specialist will play a key role in implementing the Center's strategic communications plan to increase awareness of Stimson's analysis and policy recommendations among high-priority external audiences in government, media, the NGO community and academia. The ideal candidate will have experience in audio and video production, website administration, and social media. Candidates should be detail-oriented and able to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Duties:  
  • Oversee technical setup and execution of public events and private meetings, including A/V equipment and video recording.
  • Produce engaging promotional materials, including videos, podcasts, and infographics.
  • Administer Stimson website, strengthening its accessibility and appeal to target audiences.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors to ensure high-quality and timely publication of Center reports and products.
  • Oversee tracking and production of daily media monitoring reports.
  • Assist in daily operation, writing and posting of content for the Center's social media channels.
  • Assist Director of Communications in conducting media outreach ' including pitching of reporters.
  • Additional responsibilities as designated.
Qualifications:   
Bachelor's or master's degree and 1 to 3 years of experience in media, advocacy, or public relations with demonstrated interest in foreign affairs issues.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in public policy and issue-driven communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Drupal and website administration.
  • Experience setting up (including lighting for, miking using a basic audio mixer, and framing) for live-event videos; managing audio recordings, and post-production responsibilities.
  • Understanding of HTML/CSS ' especially within Drupal, as well as use of Salesforce or other web database management software.
  • Strong working knowledge on Adobe Suite Software: Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Audition.
  • Digital media experience ' Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram ' and a strong understanding of digital media trends.
