Internships with Maryland Public Television

Maryland Public Television is accepting applications for the following (and additional) internships:

MPT's Department of Corporate Support is responsible for selling local corporate sponsorships. The Department is offering internship candidates the opportunity to learn about corporate sales and marketing by taking the lead on a variety of corporate projects. The Corporate Support Intern will learn to prospect for potential clients and create a marketing plan for an upcoming event. Interns will participate in sales meetings and training seminars and accompany Account Executives on sales calls and presentations at local businesses and advertising agencies. Candidates should have outgoing personalities, be detail oriented, and possess good writing and computer skills. Ideal candidates will have experience with MS Word, PowerPoint and basic familiarity with spreadsheets and contact management software such as Outlook.

The Human Resource Office will offer learning experiences in maintaining "front office" activities. Students will assist in: research, interviews, and drafting copy for MPT publications; drafting press releases; research to build target media lists for publicity campaigns; fact-checking/proofreading; events support; and special purpose publications. Students will become familiar with customer service and handling public inquiries via telephone. Candidates must have strong PC experience and the ability to write professional reports and correspondence. Candidates must be detail oriented; well organized and able to work effectively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Students must be able to process and prioritize high volumes of work under tight deadlines.

This position is for students interested in producing television shows, particularly non-fiction & educational programs. Interns will work directly with producers on a variety of projects in all stages of development. They will be exposed to the nuts-and-bolts of production management including research, planning, field & studio shoots, administration, and more.  This internship can cover all phases of production, ranging from early program development straight through to final distribution and broadcast. Candidates must be detail oriented self-starters, have outgoing personalities, and possess good writing and computer skills. Ideal candidates will have experience with non-linear editing systems, particularly AVID.

Students will get behind the scenes experience with planning and executing special projects related to the departments fundraising events and community engagement activities.  Interns will assist with all aspects of event planning including creative concept, logistics, vendor selection & management, staffing, execution and more.  Candidates should be highly motivated, self-starters with excellent organizational skills. The ability to multi-task, communicate effectively and demonstrate attention to detail are essential.
