AASD Event - Race and Place: Silver Spring

The Department of African American Studies invites you to join us for an upcoming talk on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Local historian, David Rotenstein, Ph.D., will discuss how due to racially exclusive patterns of development, Silver Spring became a sundown suburb: a place where African Americans could work but not live. Dr. Rotenstein will illustrate how official and private actions reproduced a Jim Crow-era social structure that dominated the community throughout most of the twentieth century.

Date: Wednesday, November 29, 2017
Time: 4:30 pm
Location: Shoemaker Building Rm. 2102
RSVP: Alana Hackshaw
