Full Time Paid Winter/Spring Results for Development Internship

Results for Development (R4D) is a global nonprofit organization working with partners in more than 55 countries to find new ways to help people escape poverty and reach their full potential. 

Internship Description and Objectives: What will you learn during this internship? R4D’s internship program is designed to provide students and recent graduates with an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and training about our programs and projects in developing countries as well as supporting areas of R4D. 

R4D’s Center for Health Market Innovations (CHMI) team is seeking an intern for the Winter 2017 semester. During this 10-week internship, the Global Health Innovations Intern will gain the following educational knowledge and training by the end of this internship : 

  • Exposure to a range of issues in global health, particularly non-state and market-based organizations working to improve healthcare in low and middle income countries
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of large datasets of crowd-sourced data
  • Understanding of market-based innovations in health for the poor in the developing world
  • Research and data analysis for monitoring and evaluation techniques
  • Assisting with implementation of a Database Quality Improvement Strategy will provide an opportunity to learn more about data quality best practices and provide experience with project management and implementation
This internship is based in Washington, D.C., and will report directly to the Senior Program Officer. 

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks including, but not limited to : 

  • Lead the implementation of a database quality review process for CHMI’s online database to ensure that program profiles are up-to-date, relevant and of high quality.
  • Provide research and analytical support to program profiling process for CHMI (this includes reaching out to innovative health programs globally, conducting in-depth phone interviews with them, and collecting and writing up data into succinct CHMI profiles).
  • Provide research and data analysis assistance for CHMI Monitoring & Evaluation and measuring impact.
  • Investigate, recommend, and implement practices to enhance and add value to existing database.
  • Ensure data clean-up and best practices are maintained on an ongoing basis.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, a strategic thinker and ability to problem solve and be able to work independently as well as engage and work collaboratively as part of a team. The ability to set priorities, handle competing time and resource demands will also be key for success in this role and we are looking for an individual who has a thirst for knowledge and learning new things to join our team! 

Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in quantitative data collection, management, and analysis
  • Excellent analytical skills with previous experience with data extraction and analysis is valued
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail will be key
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Proficiency in process analysis, improvement, and documentation
  • Demonstrated experience and/or interest in international development preferred
  • Previous experience and/or an interest in global health
  • Experience with Drupal, or other CMS desirable
Compensation: -This is a paid internship and R4D interns will receive $12.50/hourly. 

Eligibility & Internship Requirements: -Candidates should be college/university undergraduate students with less than 2 years of work experience; or graduate students with less than 2 years of work experience. 
- Interns are expected to work 40 hours a week during the 10-week internship period.
