Maryland State Golf Association - P.J. Boatwright Paid Internship


Purpose: Exposure and training for qualified applicants in all aspects of day-to-day operations at the Maryland State Golf Association in an effort to provide experience and preparation for a career in golf administration.

Term of Internship: Typically 3 to 7 months, beginning in April and ending in October

Location: The intern will be based at the MSGA headquarters in Pikesville, MD, with travel throughout the state of Maryland required for tournament duties and other on-site needs.

Responsibilities: Intern will report to the Director of Operations and will work primarily in the following departments:

Tournaments and Competitions: Assist with on and off course administration. On course includes course set-up, scoreboards/scoring, local rules and various other rules official assignments. Off course includes processing tournament entry forms, updating the website and various other tournament preparation duties.

Handicap & Membership Services: Process applications related to the Patron Member Program and eClub, and assist with responding to general inquiries related to the handicap department.

Other Duties: Additional experience will be provided in the areas of course rating, rules of golf, marketing and communications and website administration as schedule allows throughout the internship term.

Compensation: Compensation for the internship is $2000 per month

Housing & Transportation: The selected individual must arrange their own housing in the area and provide their own transportation.

Work Attire: Office attire is golf casual, with on-course attire more formal. MSGA logoed clothing will be provided as needed.

Qualifications: A college degree (completed or in progress) is preferred, but not required. A high interest in golf/golf administration with considerable knowledge of the game of golf is beneficial. Strong written and verbal communication and organization skills required. On-site tournament days require that the intern be willing to work flexible hours. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential.
