Development Project Assistant Position with the Atlantic Council for Recent Grad

The Atlantic Council seeks an inquisitive, nonprofit development professional to help drive the development operations work of an expanding fundraising operation supporting global policy programs. The Project Assistant, Development Operations is an integral member of the development department, focusing on day-to-day gift processing and database management with additional responsibilities in support of the annual development work plan and overall development strategy. The Project Assistant, Development Operations will work closely with each member of the department and is expected to be proactive in ensuring that activities from the annual development work plan are undertaken in a timely, strategic manner.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the complexity of building a new and rapidly growing program. The candidate should preferably possess a solid understanding of donor relations and database management through professional experience and academic work. The position requires a strong record of organization, excellent administrative and communication skills, superior writing ability, attention to detail, and a proven aptitude to manage day-to-day logistical aspects of the department.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Update and maintain constituent records in the constituent relationship management system (CRM).
  • Perform database maintenance and clean-up projects to improve data integrity and database performance.
  • Work with the Assistant Director to oversee day-to-day gift operations, including tracking payments, gift entry in the CRM, running financial reports, and reconciling deposits.
  • Work with the Assistant Director to oversee timely donor acknowledgements.
  • Complete donor-related documentation and maintain an organized filing system.
  • Help to update constituent records prior to email communications, including campaign letters, invitations, and more in the Pardot email marketing system.
  • Create mailing lists and email send analytics reports when needed.
  • Assist with conducting research on prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations identified by development officers for specific projects at the Council.
  • Prepare development staff in advance of foundation donor/prospect meetings with background materials and provide appropriate follow up, including tracking updates in the CRM.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 0-2 years in a fundraising environment, or comparable experience
  • Experience and daily usage of a CRM, Salesforce preferred
  • Experience working with an email marketing system, Pardot preferred
  • Experience working with fundraising research tools, WealthEngine and FindWealth 8 ratings preferred
  • Commitment to the Atlantic Council mission
  • Desire to learn, develop new skills, and build development experience

Summer Internships with RTI International

The Governance and Economic Development (GED) Division Internship Program at RTI provides outstanding students the opportunity to work side-by-side with senior international governance experts to develop new tools and approaches to some of the most challenging issues in developing countries. Interns will gain exposure to all aspects of the business development process in governance and are encouraged to propose ideas for independent research or business development projects.

Internship Tracks Offered
Business Development Track (1 position available, Washington, DC or Research Triangle Park, NC): The intern will concentrate on market/business research, business capture, proposal development, strategic positioning activities, and competitor tracking and analysis.

Communications Track (1 position available, Washington, DC or Research Triangle Park, NC): The intern will work with either our Business Development team or with our Global Center for Youth Employment to promote governance work through social media, newsletters, and other methods as needed.

Monitoring & Evaluation Track (1 position available, Washington, DC or Research Triangle Park, NC): The intern will assist with establishing monitoring & evaluation (M&E) and knowledge management systems for Governance & Economic Development projects to effectively capture information, share lessons learned, and best practices. The intern will work with the M&E and Learning team to develop and implement tools, methodologies, and systems for knowledge management for on-going projects and/or new project proposals’ monitoring and evaluation system. This could include conducting external research, reviewing internal practices for best practices, and working with the teams on implementing a knowledge management system.

Research Track (3 positions available in Washington, DC or Research Triangle Park, NC): The intern will primarily focus on supporting rigorous technical research, writing, and tools development for strategic areas such as:
  • Middle East and Africa Initiatives (region and country-specific research)
  • Latin America Initiatives (region and country-specific research)
  • Governance and sectoral service delivery
  • Demand-driven workforce development and global value chains
  • Extractive industry and development
  • ICT and innovation in service delivery systems
  • Micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) development

  • Youth, security and crime prevention programming

Africa Center Program Assistant Position with the Atlantic Council for Recent Grad

The Atlantic Council seeks a talented and entrepreneurial program assistant/assistant director to assist in implementing a growing array of projects and initiatives related to Africa within a dynamic and fast-paced center at the Council. The assistant director will play a central role in developing and organizing program activities including: high-level speaker series, policy workshops, conferences, strategy sessions, task forces, and coordinating publications and other initiatives. The candidate must have a strong educational background in African political, economic, or security affairs, and will preferably have at least one year of educational, volunteer, or professional experience on the African continent (preference for sub-Saharan Africa). The candidate must be an excellent writer, exceptionally organized with strong interpersonal skills, and capable of working in a fast-paced and culturally diverse environment.
The candidate must be able to conduct graduate-level research on a wide variety of Africa-related topics, while acting as the primary provider of administrative and logistical support for the Center’s public and private events. S/he will report to the Center’s director and deputy director, work closely with the Center’s associate director, and interact daily with Africa Center interns.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the fast pace of building upon an established but rapidly growing program. Demonstrated expertise with the region and issues including security policy and conflict prevention, energy and economic growth, poverty reduction and assistance programs, and other priority concerns is vital. The position requires a strong record of organizing programs and events, excellent administrative and communication skills, a positive attitude about tackling complex and dynamic problems, superior writing ability, attention to detail, and a proven aptitude for international security and defense issues.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist Center’s director and deputy director with administrative tasks including scheduling, timesheets, and financial reconciliation as assigned.
  • Assume lead responsibility in organizing more than forty Center events per year, including workshops and conferences; liaise with office of external relations and other centers to ensure successful execution of and publicity for Atlantic Council programming and events; provide support to senior Atlantic Council staff and Board members; coordinate travel arrangements and prepare substantive briefing material for guests coming to Washington and for Council trips abroad.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence in accordance with the Atlantic Council style guide, including event invitations, thank you notes, and follow-up correspondence.
  • Conduct background research on various topics and be able to condense research materials into digestible written form and oral briefings; serve as rapporteur to Council task forces and workshops; assist in drafting various Atlantic Council publications.
  • Delegate activities to and provide guidance for program interns.
  • As time allows, provide and deliver expert commentary and analysis on US-Africa policy issues.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in African studies, international relations, or a related field; Master’s degree a plus
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English; French fluency highly desirable
  • Excellent telephone presence and interpersonal skills, including ability to work well with both interns and senior officials
