Research Assistant Position for May or Recent Grad with Population Reference Bureau

RESEARCH ASSISTANT
U.S. Programs
The Population Reference Bureau seeks a Research Assistant in the U.S. Programs Department to provide research and administrative assistance to management and staff. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of U.S. Programs, this person will assist senior PRB staff members to analyze and report on U.S. demographic trends, ensure data quality, organize in-person and virtual meetings, prepare project documents, reports, and correspondence, and assist with other tasks as necessary.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the collection, organization, and tabulation of data on U.S. demographic, social, and economic trends from secondary data sources;
  • Conduct data checking and quality assurance for data deliverables;
  • Assist in arranging logistics for virtual and in-person meetings and conferences, coordinating participant schedules and travel arrangements, and coordinating hotel contracts;
  • Assist with communication and follow-up for participants of meetings via electronic communication and telephone;
  • Create and maintain contact databases and project document repositories;
  • Assist senior staff in preparing reports, meeting summaries, and other PRB publications as required;
  • Respond to email inquiries from senior staff and partners.
  • Assist in updating content and managing subscriptions related to project websites.

    Experience and Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree plus six months of work experience. Social science background and research experience working with data. Interest in demography preferred;
  • Experience providing administrative support;
  • Experience with U.S. Census Bureau data and products a plus.

    Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent writing, grammatical, and proofreading skills;
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong quantitative and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize according to staff needs and deadlines;
  • Ability to work effectively on a team, as well as independently;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and Word required;
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet database functions in Excel desirable. Experience with SAS, SPSS, or other statistical software packages a plus.
