Pell Grant Recipient Interested in Study Abroad? More Funding Available!

Upping the ante on support for Pell Grant Recipients*:
EA increases Gilman Application Grant to $1,000

Education Abroad will continue our successful incentive program to guarantee an award to all qualified study abroad students who work with the  National Scholarships Office to submit a complete application for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program.

The $1,000 award will be distributed to UMD students regardless of whether or not they are awarded a Gilman scholarship and students are still eligible to apply for the EA Scholarship and other funding.

*In order to be eligible for the Gilman Scholarship, students must receive the Pell Grant and be a U.S. citizen, and be planning to study abroad for at least 21 days. Scholarships amounts range between $3,500 and $5,000.

To qualify for the $1,000 Education Abroad award for Gilman Scholarship applicants, students should follow these steps:

1) Meet with with the UMD National Scholarships Office to have at least one draft of their Gilman essays reviewed before 5:00 pm EST on Friday September 29th

2) Submit a complete Gilman Scholarship application by the Gilman application deadline on October 1st.
3) Participate on a UMD-approved study abroad program.

Students can learn more about the Gilman process from returned #TerpsAbroad and Gilman recipients at the panel on Thursday, September 5th - 5:00 - 6:00 pm in 1102 HJP.

Historically, students have had better chances of receiving a Gilman by working with the UMD National Scholarship Office on their applications, so Education Abroad encourages students through this $500 award to actively use this campus resource.
