Winter Study Abroad in the Dominican Republic: Global Service & Reflections on US Identity!

Thinking of studying abroad during Winter term 2020? Want to have an impact on the local community you’re visiting? Then apply and join us this January on our study abroad program to the Dominican Republic: Global Service & Reflections on U.S. Identity.

This 3-credit study abroad course counts towards the General Education Diversity/Cultural Competence Requirement and as an elective for the Global Poverty Minor.  Students can choose to earn credit as course number EDHI338D (Intergroup Dialogue Program), BSGC338D (Global Communities) or LASC369R (Latin American Studies Certificate).  Scholarships are available, and it may be possible to use your financial aid towards costs.  The program runs from January 5-18, 2020.

The DR program gives you real-life, hands-on experience as international community service providers, by applying scholarship to practice. Through intergroup dialogue you will critically reflect on your service learning experiences and make connections between the dynamics you observe in the DR with our experiences in the United States. In addition, students stay in homestays, receive 3 meals a day, go on excursions, and get to know DR history and culture.

We have some great opportunities coming up in the fall for you to learn more about the program and get to know us.  Come see Jazmin and Jeremy at:

  • Study Abroad Fair, Wednesday, September 4 from 2pm - 6pm in the STAMP Grand Ballroom: We would love to talk with you more about the program and get to know you!
  • Global Service in the DR Info Session, Wednesday, September 11th from 5:00pm - 6:00pm in H.J.Patterson Hall: During this in-depth session, you will learn more about the program, meet some alumni, and enjoy some snacks.

If interested we encourage you to begin your application. If you have any questions about the program structure and content, please reach out to us at  For any questions about the application itself, please contact
