Public Affairs and Government Relations Program Coordinator Position for December or Recent Grad at the Hoover Institution DC Office

Position description

The Hoover Institution is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time Public Affairs and Government Relations Program Coordinator position located in the Hoover-Washington, DC office. 

About Stanford University's Hoover Institution: The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace is a public policy research center devoted to the advanced study of economics, politics, history, and political economy—both domestic and foreign—as well as international affairs.

Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover before he became the thirty-first president of the United States, the Institution began as a repository of historical material gathered at the end of World War I. The library and archives have grown to be among the largest private repositories of documents on twentieth-century political and economic history. Over time the Institution expanded its mission from collecting archival material to conducting advanced research on contemporary history and economics and applying this scholarship to current public policy challenges. 


The Public Affairs and Government Relations Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Media Affairs in Washington, DC and assists with the execution of Hoover's Stuart Family Congressional Fellowship and Economic Fellowship Programs; Hoover Institution in Washington, DC programming and events; Hoover's DC-based Library & Archives Reading Room; and provides daily administrative support to the Hoover DC Office.

  • Understand and communicate the features, benefits, and advantages of the program to a target audience.
  • Gather, analyze and report on program data.
  • Execute a tactical plan to meet the program objectives.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of program elements.
  • Provide administrative support to Program team.
  • Track program progress against goals and schedule.
  • Assist in the development of materials which support the program.

  • Manage front desk operations, serving as initial point of contact for the programs, including greeting and assisting visitors, especially Hoover Fellows.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Degree in Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations preferred. Experience and internships in Washington, DC and Capitol Hill preferred.

  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a small, but active office. 
  • Self-starter with ability to handle personal and confidential information and provide correct information to callers. 
  • Strong office and technical skills, with proficiency using Word, Excel, and aptitude to learn Stanford on-line systems.
  • Experience with AV/technology preferred.
