Virtual Communications and Writing Undergraduate Internship with the University Career Center



The University Career Center & The President’s Promise (UCC) at the University of Maryland seeks to employ a motivated Communications and Writing Intern to contribute to the UCC’s social media presence, and support our overall communications efforts. The communications undergraduate assistant will report to the Career Events Coordinator, Kenyatta Malloy, kmalloy1@umd.edu.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Be available to work 10-15 hours per week. Academic credit available.

1.      Content Curation: Edit and curate content for web, video, social, newsletters, brochures, and similar projects to tell the UCC story. In an engaging way, sometimes simplifying complex ideas and terminology for a general audience. Assist in the creation and maintenance of content repository and editorial calendar.
2.      Outreach/Research: Interview students, alumni, and professionals across a wide array of subject matters to create compelling evergreen (blog) content as well as feature stories. Research and curate content and information. 
3.      Website Maintenance: Assist in web maintenance including content updates and edits, new page development, event and data entry, and similar activities as assigned.
4.      Performs administrative duties as requested.      


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working toward a bachelor's degree in English, marketing, communication, journalism, or related field
  • Experience with content management systems for websites, primarily Drupal
  • Graphic design experience or willingness to learn; (Canva, Indesign, Photoshop)
  • Ability to work with standard office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet)
  • Superior writing, editing, and verbal language skills (AP style)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience or ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, prioritize workloads and produce high-quality work within established deadlines.
