The UCC is Looking for Students to Join the Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Advisory (IDEA) Board!

The University Career Center is seeking to improve support for students from all backgrounds and proactively seek opportunities on their behalf. The Center’s new Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity Advisory (IDEA) Board will provide a student voice to the specific challenges faced by Black and other diverse students in their job and career search. IDEA Board members will advise the Center’s staff, create awareness, and connect with our diverse students through strategic programming and conversations.

Their immediate focus is addressing the needs of Black students.  They believe making progress on these issues will inform diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives broadly.  

Board member responsibilities will include: 

  • Attending twice-a-semester meetings with the Director and the Center’s Senior Staff
  • Identifying specific career development needs and resources for Black students
  • Brainstorming effective ways to engage diverse students through in-person and virtual offerings
  • Amplifying other student voices, and bringing concerns and solutions to the table
  • Learning about the Center’s distributive service model, key programs, and resources

IDEA Board members must possess the following qualities and characteristics:
  • Sophomore class standing or above
  • Demonstrable interest in diversity, equity & inclusion through service, study, or activism
  • A collaborative approach and confidence expressing thoughts/ideas/reactions in a group setting
  • Prior participation in, or plans to participate in, an internship
  • Interest in creating strategies for encouraging Black students to invest in career development
  • Willingness to serve as a role model for career readiness to fellow students
