Fundraising and Development Internship with Real Food for Kids
This is an opportunity to gain experience doing fundraising and development for a small non-profit organization working for healthier food in the Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland and in the state of Maryland. The intern will work directly with the Executive Director and will have the opportunity to be involved a strategy retreat with organization's Board of Directors. The intern will be an important participant in grant-writing and fundraising activities and strategy as well as the coordination of special events.
Time commitment: minimum 20 hours/week and up to 40 hours/week depending on interest and availability. One day each week will be expected to be served at our office in Rockville, MD and the remainder can be done from home. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and will continue until one or more interns are selected. The internship period is flexible and depends on our needs and the applicant's schedule. Internships are available year-round, so do not hesitate to inquire about other possibilities.
Responsibilities:-Help coordinate fundraising special events. -Email, call and visit local businesses for silent auction donations and sponsorships. -Research grant-making organizations and foundations to develop a list of best prospects. -Send letters of inquiry to prospective grant-making organizations and foundations. -Prepare proposals and grant applications that display excellent writing and editing skills -Assist in developing and implementing fundraising strategies utilizing Facebook, Twitter and other social media. -Update donor database. -Send donation acknowledgment letters.
-A commitment to healthy eating for school children -Some academic background or personal interest in nutrition -Currently enrolled in or recently completed university or changing career tracks and looking for experience in development -Strong written and oral communication skills with excellent grammar -Extensive writing experience in any formal context -Strong attention to detail -Proficiency in MS Word and Excel -Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines -Strong initiative and self-motivation -Located in the DC metro area (or willing to relocate for the duration of the internship)
Preferred (but not Required) Qualifications:-Some experience in grant writing and/or event planning is preferred but not required. -Have a computer with MS Office Pro on it, including MS Access -Experience using MS Access
