Education Abroad will continue our successful incentive program to guarantee a $500 award to all study abroad students who work with the National Scholarships Office to submit a complete application for the International Scholarship Program. The $500 award will be distributed to UMD student accounts regardless of whether or not they are awarded a Gilman scholarship and students are still eligible to apply for the EA fund and other scholarships.
*In order to be eligible for the Gilman Scholarship, students must receive the Pell Grant and be a U.S. citizen, and be planning to study abroad for at least 21 days. Scholarships amounts range between $3,500 and $5,000.
To qualify for the $500 Education Abroad award for Gilman Scholarship applicants, students should follow these steps:
- Attend the Gilman Info session on Tuesday, February 5th in HJP 1102
with the UMD National Scholarships Office to receive in-person feedback on
the application by completing this survey.
- Work with NSO and have at least one draft of their Gilman essays reviewed before March 5, 2019 at 5 pm, the deadline for the Gilman application. Registering will give you access to lots of personalized advice – including examples of successful applications – to help you write an effective Gilman Scholarship application.
Historically, students have had better chances of receiving a Gilman by working with the UMD National Scholarship Office on their applications, so Education Abroad encourages students through this $500 award to actively use this campus resource. Please encourage your Pell students to study abroad and apply to the Gilman by March 5, 2019 for summer, fall and full year programs.
