Development and Communications Associate Job with United World Schools for May or Recent Grad

Role Summary 

Reporting to the US-based Executive Director and the UK-based Global Director of Development and Communications, you will support day-to-day fundraising operations, including research, donor management and communication, proposals, and donor events.  Specifically, under the supervision of the Executive Director and with the global fundraising team, you will focus on supporting the north-American donor portfolio, including researching prospective donors; stewarding existing donors; and reporting on past donations.  You will also support the organization and management of US-based donor events (online and in-person) and perform administrative tasks on behalf of the NGO’s senior management.

You will have experience working within a international development or non-profit fundraising office and understand the nature of engaging private-sector donors.  You are comfortable performing complex and high-level fundraising tasks, while performing administrative tasks when needed within the culture of a flat, multinational organizational organization.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)

 

Donor engagement and administration:

•         Foster appropriate donor outreach and stewardship through regular written and in-person engagement.

•         Support and fulfil commitments to donors, seeing that all aspects are carried out, including preparing donor updates and reports on behalf of the CEO and the Executive Director.

•         Ensure timely, accurate and relevant acknowledgments of donor and stakeholder commitments are prepared and issued; including thank you notes, tax receipts, and programmatic updates.

•         Support donor record management in CRM system, and work with team to ensure all accounts are updated and maintained with accurate contact information, activities are tracked, and accounts coded correctly for marketing list management.

•         Support the Executive Director and other senior leadership in the UK and other country programs in their fundraising, corporate, and programmatic duties as required.  

Research:

•         Support the development of donor prospects through targeted research and outreach.

•         Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to UWS.  

•      Create and manage marketing lists for use with development cultivation and stewardship activities.

•      Utilize social media to develop marketing and list building leads; and drive attendance to events and donor opportunities.

Communications:

•     Manage social media channels and ensure UWS messaging reflects current objectives.

•     Work with global communications director and their team to coordinate press materials, releases, and responses.

•    Coordinate internal communications to UWS Board, advisors, staff, and stakeholders and update key donors on regular basis.

Administrative Duties:    

• Support Board meetings and committees through accurate minute and note taking.   

• Perform occasional scheduling and travel logistics on behalf of senior management.

• Coordinate internal and external meetings

Knowledge and core competencies

To be successful in this role you will have a good understanding of organizational fundraising practices, non-profit management, international affairs, and the principles of the sustainable development goals.  UWS is a low-overhead, high impact NGO that prioritizes rapid execution of its school building model; therefore, successful candidates understand how to operate independently, with no task too big or too small to take on.   

 

Essential criteria

The successful candidate will bring a strong balance of the following skills:

●       A background in non-profits and/or international development operations

●       Expertise in fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques and the ability to apply them in an organized and purposeful manner. 

●      Excellent oral and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment. 

●      Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work, and independently manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines. 

●     Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment. 

●     Ability to recall, recognize and communicate interrelated information pertaining to UWS donors and prospects. 

●    Familiarity with the non-profit sector, with an emphasis on early childhood development/education, international development, humanitarian operations, or the US K-12 education system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Relevant experience in a similar not-for-profit
  • Prior experience with donor relations and stewardship preferred
  • Experience managing online and traditional communications channels
  • Demonstrated experience organizing in-person and virtual events
  • The legal right to work within the United States without an organizational sponsorship
