The Government Affairs & Policy (GAP) team is seeking an intern to support several workforce development initiatives through research and engagement with member groups and subject matter experts. Workforce development is a top priority for MHA’s 60 member hospitals and health systems. The intern will work closely with the GAP team to support the work of MHA’s Task Force on Maryland’s Future Health Workforce and support implementation of the Task Force’s recommendations. In addition, the intern will help prepare for the 2023 Maryland General Assembly session which begins in January. The intern will be expected to work 12 hours per week. Arrangements can be made to accommodate the student’s class schedule. This is a paid internship, although students can elect to receive academic credit instead of pay. There is no guarantee or expectation that this internship will result in employment with the Maryland Hospital Association.

Students interested in learning about health care policy development with a focus on the clinical and allied health workforce are strongly encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to jkrienke@mhaonline.org.

The ideal intern will be a serious student who is eager to learn and is fully engaged in their work. The intern should be familiar with Microsoft programs, attentive to detail and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Applicants will need to conduct themselves professionally and manage their time. Students with strong research skills, writing and analysis will be highly considered. Additionally, previous work experience that shows an ability to work well with others and examples of initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm is highly regarded.
