Are you interested in supporting students through mental health challenges? Do you hope to make a wider impact on campus? Are you ever the stand-in therapist, mom friend, or go-to secret keeper? If you answered yes to any of the above, read below to learn more about Lean on Me College Park (CP) and how to apply to be a peer supporter!
Lean On Me CP is an anonymous, peer-to-peer text line for UMD students to seek non-crisis mental health support. Our organization complements existing services at UMD with a mission to lower the barrier to entry for seeking emotional support by being anonymous, highly accessible, approachable, and involved in the community. Our line is now open for the fall semester, so feel free to text us at 301-494-8808 from 2 PM - 2 AM any day of the week to chat with one of our trained peer supporters.
Lean On Me supporters are those on the other end of our text line, chatting with fellow students. If you are interested in being a supporter, please apply by September 10th. Find the application and learn more about being a supporter at https://go.umd.edu/lomfall22. We will also hold an Instagram Q&A about the position on September 8th starting at 10am; our Instagram and social media are linked below. All UMD students are welcome to apply to be a supporter; no prior experience is needed and all training will be provided!
Lean On Me was originally founded in 2015 by MIT students and has chapters at eight other universities around the country. For more information about Lean On Me, click here: https://lean0n.me/
